We are Sara and Mike, both long-time sailors who have crossed the vast Atlantic Ocean..
It's true... We’ve traveled far and wide, but it was this land, the Ceira Valley, that truly captured our hearts.

With backgrounds shaped by adventure — Sara in kitchens and classrooms, Mike in workshops and on wheels — we set out to transform this house into something welcoming, comfortable, and full of character. Every corner, every detail, every room has been touched by our hands and our stories.
Sara is A lifelong cook, teacher, and lover of good food and warm conversation. It’s no surprise that hospitality comes naturally — from responding to dietary needs with delicious creativity to offering a welcoming smile for children and adults alike. Good food, shared stories, and thoughtful care are part of what makes House of Vines feel like home.
Mike is a carpenter, craftsman, problem-solver, and avid cyclist. If something needs fixing, shaping, building — Mike is already on it. His attention to detail shows in the quality of our spaces, both inside and out. Beyond that, you’ll often find him exploring the winding village roads on two wheels, ready with local tips for your own adventures.
The House of Vines is a place where history, heart and hospitality meet.
Nestled in the gentle hills of central Portugal, our home began its life in 1868. Over the years it has witnessed generations, seasons, laughter, and still today carries its original soul — warmly preserved and lovingly renewed. When we found it, we knew immediately that this was more than a beautiful old house — it was a place made for gathering, resting, connecting, exploring and belonging.
It's more than a place to stay.

The House of Vines is designed for people who want more than just a room — it’s a place to live your days at your own pace. There’s laughter around the breakfast table, impromptu games in the yard, long afternoons by the pool, and evenings under the stars with a glass of local wine.
To us, it’s about experience:
- quiet mornings in the garden
- spontaneous picnics by the ceira river
- evenings sharing stories in the wine cellar
- friendships made over simple, memorable meals
We hope that whether you visit for a night or a week, you leave with a sense of calm, connection, and a little piece of Portugal in your heart.
